Keeping it local
July jitters…….. …..July….Summertime and the living is easy NOT! This is the month where it just goes mad the colours transfer from the burst in spring and then flowing into summer and yet, a lot of gardens are green for three to four weeks over this period, if the planting hasn’t got coloured foliage or the right flowering plants. Roses are doing well, just remember to keep deadheading the shrub roses. Check the Clematis for wilt and remove any stems that are affected, and check any plants for signs of pest and diseases, a good remedy that is on our website for slugs and snails is the garlic treatment, this I have been told recently also works on roses to keep some disease at bay so worth a try, it’s on the tips page on our website www.mow-n-blow.co.uk, or you just search for it and there should be lots of recipes for this online. Fruit time is around the corner and if you are lucky enough this is peach, nectarine and apricot time, also I have had to net my gooseberry plant this year as the birds had a lovely feast last year and I am determined to keep them for us this year, crumble or fool?? Don’t forget to pick the courgettes or they will be MARROWS. I could go on for ages about the veg, just keep an eye out and keep collecting, as you will be rewarded, I am at present eating my strawberries while I do my own garden. Hedges go mad, if you are the one doing them good luck if not don’t forget to book these as they can get out of control very quickly. Also enjoy it, get the BBQ going and the G&T ready, so you can use the outside room to affect, and if you think you need ideas I think I need a design so I can really make the most of the space or particular area, we can help. We have recently done the most beautiful Rockery and Pond with a stream leading to a marsh garden and it has transformed the area, we were very lucky to be involved, Christian at his best, we have also recently built and planted Gaze Burvill’s retail courtyard garden Designed by Anne-Marie Powell, which I believe is working extremely well, as well as entertaining the public from their retail space on Saturdays. they were at Chelsea this year and at Chatsworth selling their beautiful garden furniture.
