Letters from the garden
Dear Readers, Well here we are mid October already, have you done your winter containers and topped up on the bulbs? Don’t forget spring bulbs will be available till mid December in most Garden Centres then after Christmas they move onto the summer flowering bulbs. So make your list and plans now. I’ve had a fun time buying Heuchera’s I went to Heucheraholics in Lymington at the weekend as they had an open day, and bought some beautifully colourful plants, they are one of my favourites anyway, but at Wisley Flower Show this year I had spotted one called forever purple, which is stunning and both myself and my Father wanted one, as they had sold out then a visit was in order. Not only did I buy that one I bought quite a few more and I am now looking to make sure the shady part of the house is colourful this winter. That’s me sorted how about everyone else, we are still cutting lawns at the moment, but a lot of bed and border work has started now and we can start planning winter jobs in the gardens to make sure it’s all looking lovely in the springtime. We are at present doing our soil and seed work before it gets too cold and then it’s moving plants around the garden and adding some good soil or compost to the beds, feeding is a must. Gardeners generally create a lot garden waste this time of year, don’t forget if your burning be aware of the little critters that might venture in the built up dry wood areas and it’s a good time to tackle the compost areas over the next couple of months, making sure the worms are doing the bit for the garden. Well keep warm and you know where we are if you need us. Lynn Dupont

Speaking of garden clearance there is a great way to get rid of all the organic waste and use it for composting. This way you will enjoy flourishing garden and fruitful, as well.
