Got Muddy....

Letters from the garden

Dear Readers

Well we’ve had some rain and we have got muddy, that’s for sure, although a good time to prune the Apples and Pears and dig those beds. Pruning any shrubs that need it, and any Clematis that require it right now.

Have you added soil/compost to beds this should be done if it hasn’t already, you should be adding to your beds every year or at least biennial, it helps break down heavy soils and nourishes very sandy soils, also good is broken down leaf mulch which is great to dress the beds at this time of year.

If you add feed to your beds try to use the best you can, if it’s an all-purpose slow release or a natural mulch. Alpaca manure is great for the beds and can be used almost straight away. I have used this, and it feeds the beds really well, normally dry when put on the beds.

I need to cut my Salix now and use some of the whips for a corner of the garden, I already have a Yurt built by my husband and an arch frame for another bed, so it’s time for me to come up with something.

I have noticed our lawn has started to look like it’s needs a cut which is mad at this time of year, I will wait. I am preparing my beds for some seeds and potting my selection of cut flowers on for this year, I’m determined to get my sweet peas in on time for a change and make the most of them.

Well, whatever you are doing in the garden enjoy and of you need some help please let us know.
