Autumn Fire.....

Letters from the garden

Dear Readers,

Halloween, i hope there has been some creativity with the pumpkins, and the Kids have enjoyed the Trick or Treats!!

Now is time for Guy Fawkes night or Bonfire night, lots of fireworks and a great way of burning your hedge cuttings from this year, whilst enjoying a Toffee Apple or two, i do enjoy a bowl of chilli or hot soup while watching the fire. We sometimes forget the Guy but, at least the fire helps the winter garden.

I’ve had fun digging some Fennel roots out, just a bit big they’ve definitely gone on the fire, and all the Fennel stalks, then noticed all the new growth which shouldn’t be happening, because of the lovely days we have been having. My cosmos is still flowering and i’ve just planted some of my bulbs, there is still more to do, and unless we have rain this week i’ll still be watering some of my pots and plants that i have moved.

Leaf mulch, really good for beds and borders, so either leave on the beds or put in sacks or a compost area for it to break down into a usable mulch for next year.

Also this is a good time to sort the greenhouse out, give it a clean and stack your pots and sort your seeds and anything that needs protecting, i have some herbs that need protecting from the frost, i just have to remember to water them!!

If you have seeds that can go out into the soil, give the areas a good dig and if you can let the frost get to it, do It’s good for the soil.

Enjoy the garden and don’t forget if you have lights in the garden to make sure they are all working and gutters are cleaned ready for winter.
If you need anything, please give us a call.
