Dear Readers,
End of September already! It’s gone from hot and humid; to damp sunny mornings with dew and spider webs everywhere so you know it’s HERE. I even picked up my first conker the other day, it’s a kind of tradition here now that’s my sign, my husband always smiles when he finds it in the house somewhere apparently keeping spiders at bay!!!! Now that little quirk is out the way I now have others to do now, I call them autumn jobs which we do automatically but not everyone knows when, have you cut back the perennials, planted your spring bulbs, tidied your baskets for winter and potted up anything tender for the greenhouse, if you are able to do this, if not this is needed now, also at this time of year you can start dividing your perennials if they have finished, have a good look and see where there have been gaps and move things around, or you call us and we can do it, it makes the plant perform better as well as them not becoming heavy and thuggish! Pruning roses and any other shrubs that are suitable at this time of year, slowing down the cutting and feeding the lawns with an autumn feed not a summer one – don’t forget this. This time is ideal for soil and seeding areas before it gets to cold, and when that’s done you need to feed the beds, this is important the better you treat your soil the better your plants perform, new dressing, mulch, compost and food generally is what’s required, so if you do need help with this please call as we are doing all the above for those that require it. And then when all of the above has been achieved you’ll be collecting leaves!!! What a fun job if you have a garden blower and yes we can and do this EVERY year. Lynn Dupont
